Love

Love is a decision and it must be respected and protected at all times. I believe that this is why God keeps showering us with His love in spite of our wrong doings. Let us show love, respect and protect those we love. Love keeps the world going and without love, the world will be a cold place to live in. Let love influence everything we do......

Victory Bible Church Int'l is 25 years!

The Victory Bible Church International (VBCI) will launch its 25th Anniversary on Saturday 13th, 2010 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra under the theme “Celebrating the goodness of God”.

VBCI is a Charismatic Church founded by the Presiding Bishop, Rt. Rev Nii Apiakai Tackie-Yarboi on 2nd June 1985. The Church exists to bring people to conversion in Christ Jesus and Membership in His family, maturing them to express God in human form and to equip them for their ministry in the Church and fulfill their God given mission to the world, in order to magnify God.

The Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, Elder Reginald Sackey-Addo has hinted that the year-long celebration will provide the church the opportunity to thank God for all His goodness for the past 25years and a time of re-dedication and total dependence on God for the years ahead. Elder Sackey-Addo said the Anniversary Committee will be employing the gifts and talents of individuals in the church to argument its work thus making the celebration a family affair.

The Presiding Bishop, Rt. Rev. N.A Tackie-Yarboi’s emphasis will be on the need for the Church of God to celebrate the goodness of God towards her. The Bishop said it is always important for the church not to forget the things that God does, emphasizing that “Leadership must always leave a memorial that future generations can lay hold on to make what they inherited much better than they met it” he added. He said prayers will be said for the nation, so that growth and development will be experienced by all citizens of this great land, Ghana.

The Bishop at the inauguration of the Anniversary Committee praised both the past government and the current government for the continuous growth, development, peace and stability in the nation and said more needs to be done to improve the living conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian. “We have all the infrastructure in place, our economists says the economy is taking shape among others but the ordinary Ghanaian must be able to feel it and that is the challenge for government”. He asked Ghanaians to continue to pray for peace for the nation and wisdom for all those in power.

Activities line-up for the year-long celebration includes Family Games, Donation to Orphanage, Musical Concerts, Health Walk, Crusades, Seminars, Evangelism Outreach Programmes, Anniversary Service, with the climax being the inauguration of HOREB, the Church’s five thousand-seater Auditorium at Awoshie among others.

NGO fights against the Killing of "spirit children"

Bolgatanga, Feb 28, GNA- The ritual of killing innocent orphaned or disabled children perceived as demons or spirits in some communities in the Upper East Region is fading as a result sustained socio-economic interventions, Mr. Raymond Ayinne, a development activist, has said. "In an unfortunate instance of the death of a woman during delivery, the innocent child who survives could be perceived as a spirit child who is believed to have caused the mother's death."

Under such circumstances, poisonous concoctions are forced down the throat the child after which, it is abandoned in groves or forest to die. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at the launch of a community sensitization programme at Zorko-Kanga in the Bongo District, Mr. Ayinne, who heads the External Affairs of Afrikids Ghana, a Child Welfare and Protection NGO, explained that children born with deformities are also perceived to be "spirit children".

He stated that one of the communities where the practice was common was the Pumulgu-Sherigu in the Kassena-Nankana West District and said Afrikids Ghana initiated a project dubbed: "Operation Sherigu" in that community with the aim of eliminating the practice.Mr. Ayinne explained that through educational durbars organized at the communities to sensitize the Chiefs and people in the area, the practice had ebbed considerably.

He said the NGO was able to form associations of people who were engaged in the killings of the "spirit children" and convinced them to shed the dangerous and baseless perceptions they held against the innocent children. In addition, the people were supported with funds to engage in alternative income generating activities which led them into a real and more physical world of commerce and industry resulting in the drastic reduction of the practise.

According to Mr Ayinne, his outfit also established a Child Health Centre in the community where the "spirit children' were sheltered while his outfit negotiated with their family to accept and nurture them. He stated that micro-credit packages were given out to women in the area to undertake viable economic ventures to take good care of themselves and their children.

Mr. Ayinne further indicated that Afrikids Ghana worked closely with the Ghana Health Service especially with its Community based Health Planning Centres where pregnant women went for anti-natal and post-natal care. Mr. Joseph Asak-bem, Project Manager for Operation at Sherigu, said the project which was started eight years ago in the Pulmulgu-Sherigu community has made significant impact in the that Community so it was being replicated in other communities where the practice was prevalent.

Ms. Rufina Asure, Bongo District Director of Health Service, said they were ever ready to partner Afrikids Ghana especially, in the area of nutrition, anti-natal and post anti-natal services. The Assemblyman for the Zorko-Kanga, Mr. Alexis Ayamdor, commended the NGO for extending the project to the area and pledged his support for the elimination of the infanticide.

He deployed certain negative cultural practices such as widowhood rites, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) among others and said such practices should be eliminated since they infringed on the fundamental human rights of citizens. 28 Feb.10

Quotes on Children

"Caring for children is a dance between setting appropriate limits as caretakers and avoiding unnecessary power struggles that result in unhappiness". Charlotte Davis Kasl

Every child should have a caring adult in their lives. And that's not always a biological parent or family member. It may be a friend or neighbor. Often times it is a teacher. Joe Manchin

From caring comes courage. Lao Tzu

The simple act of caring is heroic. Edward Albert

To become Christ-like is the only thing in the whole world worth caring for, the thing before which every ambition of man is folly and all lower achievement vain.

What we do--Radiant Family Foundation (RFF)

RFF is a Non-Governmental Organisation which seeks to raise awareness and help address issues that affect children and their families, such as child poverty and labour. The Foundation acknowledges that until these issues are addressed, the future of Ghana, Africa and the World will continue to be blurred. We are a group of like-minded professionals, based in both Ghana and the UK who aim to use our divine - given intellect to develop and educate communities

We believe that together we can help put a smile on a face and instil hope in the life of a 'street' child. We work with volunteers, government referral agencies and partner NGOs who are committed and most of all, passionate to see an end to children becoming adults too soon!
